In-School Programs
Eco In School
The ‘Eco In-School’ Program takes students through a series of environmental activities
focusing on sustainability, energy conservation, wildlife habitats and Global Warming.
The activities are taken from the Ontario Eco-Schools program and are linked to the
environmental learning objectives for each grade. The program is designed to take place
in a playground setting, however, it can be modified to take place in the classroom or
gym dependant on weather. All the program equipment is supplied by the Kinark Outdoor Centre.
Eco In-School activities are experiential and are both front loaded and de-briefed to maximize
retention. Sequences are individually designed for the different grade levels and are able to
be modified to accommodate specific school needs. After a warm-up phase, the activity focus is
cooperation and is followed by respect and trust building activities. Junior and Intermediate
classes are further engaged by initiatives focusing on communication and problem solving skills.
The final activities focus on transferring the learning back to the classroom and the home.
A very large group task, quickly structured and facilitated, can be chosen as a closing activity
for the whole school.
All activities are varied and adapted by the teaching staff of the Kinark Outdoor Centre for each
group they facilitate. Age, level of readiness, previous exposure, time of day and group make-up
all demand that there not be one set of activities or one way of facilitating them.
We provide a custom list of activities for each teacher group to review after incorporating your
background information.
