Summer Camp

In 2012, Kinark Child and Family Services will offer 10 five day summer camp sessions at the Kinark Outdoor Centre for children and youth between nine and fifteen years of age who require specialized social and behavioral support due to Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis. Through the skills of a professional counseling team, individualized care, adapted programming and a strength based approach, we are able to ensure participants with a successful social-recreational experience.

The Kinark Outdoor Centre has been providing supportive summer camp experiences since 1985.

From its inception, it has sought to adapt and modify outdoor recreation activities to provide success and growth opportunities for individuals who need a higher level of support than is found in many school and camp settings.

The program draws on a rich repertoire of motivational techniques and builds on the interests and strengths of the individual. The peer group interaction, the pure fun of being there, clear program expectations and the skills of the staff are key elements of the summer camp experience.

The Summer Camp program at the Kinark Outdoor Centre is:

A strength based recreational opportunity for individuals to have new experiences and feel good about themselves

A controlled setting for the development of appropriate and positive peer relationships

An ongoing support program facilitating personal growth through task completion, a secure learning environment, defined expectations and an individualized focus

An opportunity for caregivers and children to have a break from each other

A program structure that reinforces and maintains growth over a period of time

An enjoyable experience
