Family Respite Weekends
At the Kinark Outdoor Centre, two weekends every month are devoted to hosting 6 to 8 families which include
a child or youth with Autism. The weekend is designed to provide a recreation and leisure experience for families
who would benefit from the additional supports offered through the Centre. We provide a trained support worker for
each identified child, a siblings program, a parents program and a menu of facilitated activities. There is a
central dining facility that is able to support complex dietary needs, specialized accommodation supports and a
comprehensive pre-visit assistance component. Each family is given its own cabin and facilitated to participate
and network at whatever level they are comfortable.
Families living in the Central East Region (Haliburton, Simcoe, York, Durham, Kawartha Highlands, Peterborough,
Northumberland) can apply for Family Weekend Respite positions funded through the Ministry of Children and Youth
Services Respite Fund. Please the read the booklet and complete the online application below.
